AFReG: African Forum on Religion and Government is hosting a series of webinars on the theme of “The Impacts and Implications of COVID-19 and Africa’s Response.”
The webinar brought together experts from different countries and backgrounds.
Questions/Areas of topics addressed by the panelists were:
- Importance of Connectivity with Accessibility and Affordability for Everyone
- Three Broad Areas of Implications of COVID-19 on Education and Importance of the African Union Agenda 2063
- Ten Major Mindset Shifts in Education Needed in a Post-COVID-19 World
- What Christians Learn from Scripture for the Church’s Response and Actions
Mr. Erik Hersman, Co-Founder, and CEO of BRCK, Kenya, emphasized the importance of connectivity in many aspects of life including education, health care, commerce and government services. One of the points he made was that no country can have a 21st century economy without accessibility and affordability of connectivity for everyone.
Hon. Dr. Olivia Muchena, Former Zimbabwe Government Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, spoke on the disruption, disorder and disorientation created by COVID-19 and how education, science and technology come into it. She encouraged everyone to read through, be inspired by, and take to heart, the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
Mr. Tewodros Tadesse Araya, CEO, Centre for African Leadership Studies and xHub Addis, Ethiopia, pointed out that COVID-19 was a magnifier and an exposer of who we are and where we stand, but it also provided opportunities for developing ways to improve. He shared ten major and crucial mindset shifts that need to take place in the education system.
Apostle Prof. Opoku Onyinah, Immediate Past Chairman, The Church of Pentecost, Ghana, provided a background on plagues from the Old and New Testaments. He then drew deductions and implications that can help the Church respond in relevant ways to the COVID-19 pandemic.
